We are in it now. At the heart of photography is the portrait, the image of another person’s face. Capturing someone’s character can be tricky. However, we now have some tools in place to help us. Let’s revisit High and Low angles.
This is Adele. Notice the camera above is looking down. It’s not a steep overhead, but a slight downward angle. She is also posed to give her face shadows and contours. With her chin pushed toward the camera we also get some distance from her nose to her shoulders.
Same technique but on a low angle.
The Rule of Thirds is also very useful in taking a portrait.
