30 Day Photo Challenge

Taking a great photo doesn’t take an expensive lens or a state-of-the-art camera, it just takes practice. A 30-day challenge is a great way to brush up on some skills and have fun in the process. The rules are simple.

Step One: Take a photo

For this you will need a camera. There are many options to choose from, DSLRs, Film SLR, mirrorless, GoPros, Smart Phones, even the Gameboy pocket cam will work.

Step Two: Process your photo (if you like)

I would like to shy away from photo manipulation editors, i.e. Photoshop. The goal is to put composition and techniques above post editing. Programs like Lightroom or Instagram are great image developers. Fixing white balance, adjusting colors, even light cropping is key to creating good images these days. I just think we should stay away from rotoscoping cats into all your pictures…although that might be the greatest thing ever.

Step Three: Upload your photo to the Internet

Instagram is a great way to share photos and meet other photographers. Flickr is a good example of a platform that is less about socializing and more about sharing your work. Photobucket was a thing, tumblr is cool too, but sometimes they can be mean. If you have any other places you would recommend, please leave a comment below.

Hashtag the hell out of it!

#30for2017 is pretty open, let’s give that one a go. If you would like your photo to be viewed by other people in the challenge and commented on, please use the hashtag #30for2017. There will be additional hashtags for certain days. Here's what I was thinking to get started.
